School magazine deconstruction

This magazine is aimed at teenage students age range from 14-18 as it gives advise of exam stress, ways to customise your 'boring' uniform and to win £100 worth of revision books. The name 'Fly' isn't very creative or eye catching as it is transparent and doesn't look like it belongs on the magazine cover, as it doesn't fit in with the background, text or main photo. Also the colour of it is plain and boring, the only thing holding it together is the font used, as it is a and modern looking font, suiting its target audience nicely. The colours on this cover are not very bright, quite boring and dull, not catching the students eye at all. The circular purple sticker, telling you it is a free magazine, shouldn't be as bold as it is, because that is the first thing the reader notices on the magazine, dis-attracting the reader from the main picture, text and the magazine title. The main picture on this magazine cover should be more attractive to the eye, as there are so many different colours around, it just makes the picture look dull and lifeless, making the reader not want to read it. 'Aim high and believe you can fly'. This is a good slogan, and really fits in with the target audience, giving the students good advice, making them want to read more. However this should be in a bigger and in a more noticeable font. Adding the title of the magazine cover in the slogan, makes it more memorable to the reader, so if they enjoyed reading it they could pick up next week's copy.
'CHS' this stands for Croydon high school, which is a all girls school. This is a quite successful magazine, as it engages with its target audience really well, this is because, firstly the font of the text is a modern font, and the the title of the magazine is in a handwriting font, making it more personal to the reader, which attracts their attention more. The colour is in this magazine, really fits in with their target audience, which is teenage girls, aged at around 14-16. They have used some very brightly, bold colours which is very attractive to the reader, making them want to read what is on the magazine,. However the title 'CHS magazine' is in two separate colours, white and yellow. This magazine would of been much more appealing to the reader they were both one bright colour. This magazine contains sell lines on the top right hand side corner in a brightly coloured background, engaging the reader's eye to the free 10 pages you get in the magazine, making the students crave it more. The main photo is in black and white. This is not good for the target audience as it may disinterest them, as they are young teenage girls and don't want to be reading a magazine which has a hint of classical, old-fashion value to it. The fact that it is black and white dis-attracts the reader from the main background, making them just focus on the text in the magazine.

Heeey! My name is Jasmine Fayad, I am currently in year 12 studying media studies and this is a blog for my coursework. My Preliminary task is to create the front cover of a school magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a mast head. My main task is to create the front page, contents page and a double page spread of a new music magazine. I will be using this to update my progress during this task.
