R&B/Rap magazine deconstruction

This is the sort of magazine I wanted to add a twist of to my pop magazine. The target audience for this magazine, I feel would be male aged 17-19, who is strongly in to their music and even writing lyrics.

This magazine is simple but effective. There are three main colours: Black, white and green. These three colours could be seen as quite masculine. The black background is plain but overall goes well with this magazine as it allows both, the picture and the text to really stand out, attracting the readers eye and making them want to read the text around the magazine. It is good that some colour is used for the text as, one simple, plain colour would bore the reader and dis-attract them from the text and might just focus on the image.

The image on this magazine is a mid shot of the famous white rapper, Eminem, who is a big influence and inspiration to a lot of teenage boys. In this image he is staring into the camera, making it a lot more personal. This makes the reader feel as though they are being looked at and targeted, drawing them in to read further into the magazine and persuading them to buy it. As the image is a mid shot, it shows the  reader what he is wearing and his body language. He is wearing a black, baggy jacket, with a black and grey top on underneath and you can see the top of his chain, that is hidden under his top. This shows that he isn't the sort of person who wears bright colours and suggests that he doesn't really show emotion very often and has too much pride, which is backed up by where his hand is placed.

The masthead of this magazine, which is white and again stands out with the black background, is half covered my the image , hiding the middle letters of the word 'Billboard'. This is incredibly effective as it  makes the image appear as if the image is coming out of the magazine, gaining the readers attention more, making them want to buy it and feel closer to their idol.
