Before I started my final version of my magazine I got two people who fitted my target audience, one male and one female, and asked them what their thoughts were on my draft, what they would do to improve it, if they would be interested in reading the magazine and who they thought was the target audience was. They commented on how I used a wide range of fonts, which actually distracted them and made them loose interest in some parts of the magazine and actually only read the bigger, more bolder headlines. This was a change I made on my final version of the front cover. I only used one 'Sans' font, but still varied the font sizes, which appealed to my audience as they thought it would look boring if I stuck to one recurring size. They also commented on how my front cover needed more structure, as in my draft, the text was scattered all over the place and they didn't know what to read first, which again made them loose interest and not want to read on. I took these comments on board and made sure the layout was more organised so the readers could actually read the headlines without confusion. However I decided to scatter the names of artists at the bottom of the magazine, as it would seem very formal if I lined them up, which is not the style I was going for in a magazine front cover, especially for Pop/Rap magazine.
The nineteen year old male said that he would read this magazine as he thought it was very unique and would appeal to his interests as well as that it includes his favourite artists and seems as if he would enjoy the content inside. However the 15 year old female said that she would not read this magazine, as she thought it was a little bit too dark for her liking and would like to see a wider range of brighter colours. They did say that they liked the fire on both ends of the cover as well as the pictures at the bottom and it adds the unique twist into the front cover bringing both the genres Rap and Pop together. Both of them said that I definitely need to completely change the masthead font and colour and it 'cheapens' the magazine and doesn't at all fit in with the magazine.
They both agreed that they thought the magazine was aimed at males aged 16-19, which was not the audience I was aiming for, so I took all these comments and suggestions in account and changed the magazine, but not too much that it would only appeal to females by brightening it up. I kept the idea of the four pictures going across the bottom, looking as if the four artists are competing with each other, as it fits in with the title of the magazine 'HOT OR NOT' which also goes well with the fire, creating a vibe of heat between the rivals.
Overall I am quite happy with my final front cover, as I feel it appeals to my target audience (Both genders, aged 15-19) and I have added suggestions made from my target audience, making sure that it is all in their interests and that it is actually appealing to them, which makes the magazine even more successful, as I have added what my they want to see.
Hey, i like how the title is done and the fact you've ket to three main colours!
